Siesta Key Points of Interest: Point of Rocks
Siesta Key has no shortage of incredible spots to jump in the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Point of Rocks is one of those places on the list.
Point of Rocks is a series of limestone rock formations located on the southern end of Crescent Beach on Siesta Key. It is known as one of the best areas for snorkeling, even for beginners, as the water is calm and relatively shallow up to around 100 yards offshore.
Those snorkeling or diving will find colorful corals, bright green flowing seagrass, a large variety of fish, and interesting shellfish, shells, and other marine life. If you're not quite ready to get in the water, at low tide you can explore tidal pools brimming with micro sea life.
There are also tales of treasure at Point of Rocks. It's rumored it was used as a hiding spot for pirate loot that was plundered from nearby vessels sailing through the Gulf of Mexico. One story claims there was a hole dug in the area with bags of gold dust buried in it, and then it was covered with rocks.
Whatever your interest, a day at this amazing location makes for a great adventure. You can get there from Siesta Key Beach Access 12. Parking is tricky at best so be sure to arrive early. Have fun!
