The long-awaited Siesta Key, FL trolley, nicknamed Siesta Breeze, recently made its debut in March of 2017 and is now one of the best ways to get around the island since it is totally free!
With traffic and parking often being challenging on Siesta Key, the free trolley is expected to lower congestion while improving the walkability of the entire island.
The launch of the trolley is part of an effort from local leaders to get more people to use public transportation on Siesta Key. The previous Route 10 bus service that the trolley replaced had a relatively low number of riders, with many preferring other modes of transportation.
The trolley runs from 8:00 a.m. to midnight with 20-minute service during the peak hours of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 30-minute service during the other non-peak hours. The trolley will also run during every major holiday including Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.
The Siesta Breeze runs from Siesta Village all the way to Turtle Beach Park. It circles around Canal and Calle de Siesta Road in the Siesta Village area and then returns back south. Dedicated trolley stops are located at Siesta Village, Siesta Beach and Turtle Beach Park. (See below for a route map.) The trolley can also be flagged down along the length Midnight Pass Road for anyone who happens to be walking in the area. After being flagged, it will stop at the safest nearby location for boarding.
If interest in the trolley is high, the pilot program will be extended by the county. However, it’s guaranteed to be here for at least the next six months if not longer, making it a convenient option to enjoy all the best that Siesta Key has to offer.
The free trolley adds yet another way to get around Siesta Key without a vehicle. Much of the island is walkable especially around the Siesta Village area. Other popular methods of getting around without a vehicle include biking, taking taxis, and free shuttles that work on tips.
Siesta Beach parking can be limited during the busiest seasons so having the trolley available will be a major convenience to residents and visitors. With hours that run well into the evening, it can also be a great way to explore the many attractions, restaurants, shops and boutique stores of Siesta Village and the incredible scenery of Siesta Beach.
