Pet Safety for New Year's

The New Year is fast-approaching! If you have pets, chances are good they won't like the sound of nearby fireworks. Before you head out to celebrate, take a look at these from Manatee County's public safety team:

  1. Keep your pets indoors with curtains closed to shut out any fireworks.
  2. If your pets want to hide, let them.
  3. Feed your pet before the fireworks start; a full stomach makes them sleepier and helps them relax.
  4. Turning on the television or stereo can disguise the sound of fireworks.
  5. Try not to reward your dog for being scared; it’s better to ignore anxious looks or distract them.
