Sarasota Area Ranks High Among Best-Performing Cities

Posted by Judie Berger on Thursday, January 11th, 2018 at 12:53pm.

A recent report from the Milken Institute ranks the North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton metro area 6th in their list of Best Large Cities for economic development. The region gained twenty places and tops the chart in 12-month job growth.

The Milken Institute says of the area, "Though the region is largely a tourist destination and retiree haven, high-tech industry output has been growing recently, signaling some success in the area’s push to diversify its industry profile and thus improving resilience." Assets cited are the natural environment being a draw for tourists and retirees with still much room to grow and improve. Liabilities are the area's high cost of living, making affordability an issue for employees in low-wage jobs.

Milken's Best-Performing Cities ranks large and small U.S. metros according to their recent economic development and examines the trends and dynamics that contribute to their growth. Rounding out the Top 10 Best Large Cities:
